Mevotech Bellows

Overview

Rack and pinion bellows are designed to keep road debris out of the inner tie rod and the rack and pinion shaft. Some rack and pinion bellows have a vented shaft constructed inside the bellow, which allows air to transfer from one side of the rack and pinion to the other when the vehicle makes a turn. Inspection and maintenance of the bellows increases the life expectancy of the rack and pinion and inner tie rod.

Purpose

Rack and pinion bellows prevent water and debris from entering the internal parts of the rack and pinion and inner tie rod. A perfect seal of the bellows prevents premature wear, which is absolutely essential to the life expectancy of the steering rack. Torn or ripped bellows should be replaced immediately.

Technology

• Hytrel Rack and Pinion Bellows - Hytrel Rack and Pinion Bellows are made from a combination of rubber and plastic. They are designed to resist heat and are appropriate for applications where they are in close proximity to a heat source.
• Neoprene Rack and Pinion Bellows - Neoprene Rack and Pinion Bellows are more resistant to tears and do not wear as quickly as plastic or rubber boots.
