Friction and heat are the primary causes of CV boot failures. Heat can get transmitted from the drive line as a result of a malfunction in the brake pads, worn wheel bearing, or particular transmission problems, which can cause a CV boot to weaken and become vulnerable to premature wear.

When a CV boot is torn, the internal bearings of the CV joint are exposed to road debris. Debris can cause excessive bearing wear, which can lead to CV shaft unit failure. OEM style boots - OEM style boots are made to fit specific CV joints, promoting a secure fit and proper seal for the CV joints. All Mevotech Dura-flex CV Boots are application specific and have been designed as exact replacements for OEM boots. This ensures the most precise fit for each application, protecting the CV axle from contamination and failure. CV Boots are made out of either Neoprene rubber, or Hytrel rubber. Neoprene boots are the most common, because they provide the best resistance to normal weather and road conditions. Hytrel rubber provides superior resistance to high heat conditions, so Hytrel boots are used on specific applications where extreme heat is generated.
CV boots perform two key functions. CV boots keep moisture, sand, dirt, and other debris particles sealed out, preventing contamination of the internal parts of the CV joint. CV boots also keep lubrication sealed in with the CV joint, ensuring optimal part life. It is critical that the CV boot fits properly and snugly to the CV joint. Any contaminants that enter the CV joint will cause it to deteriorate.

  • Neoprene CV Boot - Neoprene CV Boots are more resistant to tears and won't wear as quickly as plastic or rubber boots.
